Douglas Peterson is Professor of Oral Medicine, School of Dental Medicine and Co-chair of the Head & Neck Cancer and Oral Oncology Program, Neag Comprehensive Cancer Center, UConn Health Center.
Dr. Peterson's primary academic responsibilities involve the role of dental medicine in primary health care as well as oral management of the oncology patient. He has been involved in laboratory and clinical research for over 30 years, and has served as reviewer and study section chair for the NIH. He is author of over 140 peer reviewed publications and 140 abstracts, and has been editor of two books.
Dr. Peterson received his DMD and PhD degrees from the University of Pennsylvania. He served as a faculty member in the Cancer Center and the Dental School at the University of Maryland, and as Head of the Department of Oral Diagnosis at the University of Connecticut School of Dental Medicine. Selected honors include being awarded Fellowship in the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh without examination in 2011, and chairing a first-in-kind Gordon Research Conference titled Mucosal Health & Disease in 2013.
